Why Balanco
The difference is in what we write down.
Most watch workshops return a watch. Balanco returns a watch alongside a clear, written account of what was assessed, what was done, and what was found. That distinction shapes everything about how the work is organised.

Six reasons clients return to Balanco
Single technician continuity
The person who opens the case is the same one who closes it. There is no internal handoff.
Written record on every job
Inspection notes and timing readings accompany even the simplest tune-up when it leaves the bench.
Instrument-verified water resistance
Pressure tests are run with equipment and documented. The result goes home with the watch.
No work without consent
Unexpected findings are communicated and agreed before any additional scope is started.
Timelines stated and held
Each service has a realistic turnaround communicated at drop-off. Changes are flagged promptly.
Archival documentation for heirlooms
Rebuild work generates a photographic and written archive that travels with the watch permanently.
Depth of mechanical knowledge
The workshop is built around a technician with fifteen years of hands-on experience across mechanical and automatic movements. That breadth means the watch is assessed correctly from the outset — the right service is recommended, not the most profitable one.
- Mechanical and automatic movement experience
- Correct service selection from assessment
- Familiarity with both contemporary and older calibres
15
years of movement-level experience informing every assessment
Three clear service tiers — scope and cost confirmed before any work begins
Defined scope on every job
The three services at Balanco have clear descriptions and honest turnaround estimates. When a watch arrives, the applicable service is confirmed with the owner before work starts. There are no surprises on collection.
- Written scope confirmation at intake
- Pricing communicated before work starts
- Owner contacted before any scope change
Equipment used properly
A timing machine measures rate and amplitude rather than relying on ear or estimation. Pressure testing equipment verifies water-resistance to a stated bar rating rather than assuming the new gasket is sufficient. The results are reported, not inferred.
- Timing machine rate and amplitude readings
- Pressure test to stated bar rating
- Documented test results returned with watch
Every pressure test produces a documented result that accompanies the watch home
Every communication on a job is direct — no automated updates, no intermediaries
Direct communication throughout
Balanco does not use ticketing systems or form emails. When there is something to communicate about a job, the client receives a direct message or call from the workshop. That keeps the picture accurate and the relationship straightforward.
- Direct phone or email contact from the workshop
- No intermediary client-service layers
- Questions welcome at any stage of the job

What You Won't Find Elsewhere
Distinctive features of Balanco's service
The presentation folder for heirloom rebuilds
Rebuild work at Balanco produces a presentation folder containing archival photographs of the movement at disassembly and reassembly, written notes on condition and work performed, and a record of the timing rate. This document stays with the watch — useful for the current owner, and potentially more so for whoever owns it next.
Pre-authorisation for scope changes
At Balanco, any finding that falls outside the agreed scope is communicated to the owner before the bench continues. This is not the industry standard — most workshops proceed on assumed consent. The policy means the client always knows what is happening to their watch before it happens.
Timing machine readings on all jobs
A timing rate is taken and reported on every service, including the basic cleaning and lubrication tune-up. This creates a baseline — if the watch returns in a year, there is a prior reading to compare against. It also means the owner collects with objective data rather than an estimate.
Secure storage between sessions
Watches waiting for parts or in the middle of multi-stage work are kept in a locked cabinet outside of working hours. The watch is not left on an open bench. For heirloom pieces in particular, that matters.
